Animal Faces

The second grade is working with lines and shapes to create animal faces.  First they draw the faces in pencil.
Next the students trace over the face with a black marker.

The last step is to paint the face and scene with tempera paint.
They love this project because they get to choose any animal.

When they are finished each student will write about what types of lines and shapes they used to create their animal.  This will be their Square 1 project.

First Grade Clowns

First grade is working on their Square one art.  This year they are making clown faces.  They are using stencils and freehand to create the drawings.

One of the first steps is to draw the face in pencil. Later the pictures will be traces in black markers and then filled in with color.
I love the creativity that comes out of these. Just by using simple shapes and lines they make fantastic faces.

Now that the clown face has been drawn the students can outline in black marker. This step really helps the students to see areas clearly when they are coloring.

Superhero city

This project is a favorite first grade students. They have so much fun learning about artist that use different materials to make 3D art.
The students make the picture 3D by adding small squares of cardboard to the back of their pictures before they glue them together.Their city designs and superheros are drawn in pencils, colored in markers and then cut out and glued. Imagination is the key.
